Korean artist Sungmi Ha, who graduated with a master's degree in ceramics from Hongik University in Korea. She has been invited as a guest artist in the Netherlands and Finland. And has residency in Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and other countries and also has rich exhibition experience. She was awarded the Special Judges of the Hagi International Ceramics Competition in Japan.
Sungmi, naturally shy by nature, observes the subtleties of everyday life with great sensitivity. She combines human facial expressions with animal-like bodies and incorporates the concept of a “soulmate” as an extension of herself. Through each moment of effort and hands-on creation, she conveys her daily emotions, capturing them meticulously in every sculpture and painting.
The artist once said, “As my emotions shift from day to day, sometimes I want to express my introverted self, and other times I want to show a more uninhibited mood.” Just like putting on a brightly colored “soulmate,” she communicates the stories of each day, using her brush to depict vivid styles that reflect her inner self, or delicately reveal her hidden, introverted side.
