SIMON LEVIN

  2025.10-2025.12

Artist Simon earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Iowa and, during his graduate studies at the University of Georgia, met his mentors Linda Christianson and Michael Simon, which sparked his passion and ambition for ceramics. He focuses on wood-firing, pushing beyond its traditional appearance, and presents rich, diverse color variations through innovative thinking and continual refinement.
Since 2004, his apprenticeship program has nurtured many ceramic artists. He has also built wood-fired kilns in Hangzhou, Taiwan, and the Universities in the United States, and has served on the board of the National Council for Education of the Ceramic Arts (NCECA). Additionally, he hosts online videos on ceramic arts.

Simon’s remarkable contributions to both the international ceramics community and the field of wood-fired kiln construction have earned him widespread recognition and respect.
Simon’s works are not only functional objects but also deeply integrated with everyday life. He extends the aesthetics of daily living into his creations of furniture and tiles, allowing beauty to naturally manifest in various forms. Each firing becomes an intimate dialogue between the artist and the kiln, where the transmission and exchange of technical knowledge unfold within the flames. Throughout the unpredictable process of wood-fired ceramics, he continuously observes, identifies challenges, and contemplates solutions, turning this demanding practice into nourishment for the spirit and an indispensable part of his daily life.
