Kate Strachan is an artist from the America, and in 2012, she apprenticed in Kanazawa, Japan. Strachan’s time spent in the Japanese studio gradually influenced her practice in ceramics, as well as her identity as an American. She graduated with a MFA from Tainan National University of the Arts, Graduate Studies of Applied Arts, Ceramics, Taiwan, in 2022. Since her days pursuing her degree, she had exhibited internationally and was also awarded one of the winners for Next Art Tainan 2022. Since 2016, she has held numerous exhibitions in Taiwan and Japan, and is one of the most active contemporary artists.
In terms of material practice, her works unconventional usage of clay slip in combination with adhesive and other materials, for example, glass, expressing her personal way of creation and presents the recent trend of sculptural expression.
