The Taiwanese artist Yishin Wang, who is enrolled in the Ceramics Program of the Graduate Institute of Applied Arts at Tainan National University of the Arts. Born in Tainan, a city steeped in history and culture, she grew up amid the alleys and lanes of the old town, drawing on those lived experiences as the foundation of her creative practice. Her work takes inspiration from Taiwan’s early architectural features—particularly the open-work balconies and buildings clad in intricate mosaic tiles—reflecting a profound affection for the memories of her hometown.

She closely observes the plants that thrive throughout the city and weaves them into her architectural language, allowing cold, rigid concrete and brick to gain new vitality through flourishing greenery. In her creations, the dense fields of mosaic tiles are more than surface decoration; they become the very “outer garment” of a building. The lattice-style balcony frames form layered structural shells that embody the persistent energy of plant growth.

Bringing these elements together, Wang constructs what she calls “architectural planters,” works that exist between vessel and architecture. To her, a planter is not merely a container for plants but a space capable of nurturing memories and emotions.

She has exhibited in the 2025 WHATZ Contemporary Art Fair in Hong Kong, the 2021 Tainan Art Fair, and the 2020 Taichung Art Fair, continually demonstrating her passion and dedication to artistic creation.
